iClicker Cloud will be Purdue’s new classroom response tool

After a selection process that included vendor demos open to faculty and staff, Purdue has selected iClicker Cloud to be implemented as the university’s new centrally funded and supported classroom response tool on the West Lafayette and Northwest campuses.

Faculty don’t need to make any changes for fall 2023. The current classroom response tools, Hotseat and iClicker Classic, will still be available. Purdue technology staff is working on the next steps for implementing iClicker Cloud and will share the full timeline and rollout plan in the upcoming weeks.

Top features of iClicker Cloud include enabling students to answer using a personal device such as a phone, tablet or computer. That provides a cost savings for students since they will no longer need to buy a separate physical device, long a desire expressed in student feedback.

Other notable iClicker Cloud features include geolocation for attendance, clickable image answering, short answer submissions, and the creation of study guides from slides.

Purdue’s classroom response tools, which students use to respond to in-class polling or quizzing questions, have not been updated in several years. A request for proposals in 2022 asked potential external partners to demonstrate updated tools. All faculty and staff were invited to join a live stream of the vendor demonstrations.

Vendor demonstrations included iClicker Cloud,  Poll Everywhere, and Top Hat. The project team, which consisted of representatives from the Purdue system campuses, scored the tools based on specific use cases and instructor feedback, including results from an online survey. Based on the evaluation process, iClicker Cloud was the top choice.

Thank you to individuals who took the time to review the tools as well as provide feedback during this process.
